4th Birthday, Bittersweet...
Hi everyone,
So much has happened this year. I've been encouraged (thanks Lynny) to blog and explain my absence...
In a nutshell, in January, my mom was diagnosed with cancer and became very ill. Our families surrounded her with love and support until her passing in April. She was the one who made the 80 mile round-trip trek to visit me every day while I was at the City of Hope for over 81 days. She dropped everything to support me and my family during my years of illness and search for my donor. I'm fairly certain that she knew her health was ailing, but she put her own health issues aside to see me through my bone marrow transplant and after care.
I miss her everyday. I especially missed her this past Mother's Day.
Today, is my 4th Birthday. In some ways, it doesn't seem like it's already been four years since my transplant. Then, in other ways, it seems like it happened eons ago; in another life; or it happened to someone else. Yes, I get two birthday folks. I earned it!! : ) But, having this birthday without mom is a bittersweet experience. I think that she is looking down, smiling, and telling me to "Go Girl!" She was my #1 cheerleader and supporter! I couldn't be more grateful for everything she has done for me and everything she taught me!
My two pieces of advice for today... #1. Don't smoke. #2. Don't be afraid to see your doctor. It could save your life.
I thank you for checking my blog and being so patient with me. My counts are stable and my health is fine. I will visit the City of Hope again in June and will post my counts at that time.
with love, nancy
