Calling all Golfers & A3M Supporters

1. Buy your Starnight tickets now!!! A3M's Starnight is their annual fundraiser featuring Keiko Matsui in concert. The event is next weekend, November 2nd, and the economy has wreaked havoc on the ticket sales. Go to asianmarrow.org for ticket information!!!

2. Golfers!!! OCO is hosting a golf tournament with net proceeds being donated to A3M. The event is on November 17th and we need to fill the field. Also, we need tee sponsorships to help make this tournament a success. Go to ocoyouth.org for golfer and tee sponsorship information!

We are also looking for Silent Auction items for Starnight and/or raffle prizes for the golf tournament. Contact me at sakakura@ca.rr.com if you have something to donate! Thanks for your help. Anything you can do will be much appreciated!

love you all, nancy

Two Years, Four Months Later... : )

I had my appointment today at the City of Hope. I've failed to post my blood counts for some reason over the last few months. My counts are stable and some are still low, but doctors are not worried. Sometimes, these things take time.

WBC 3.2 (normal 4.0-11.0)
RBC 3.75 (normal 3.8-5.2)
HGB 12.3 (normal 11.5-15.5)
PLT 84 (normal 150-350)

For some reason, the hospital was slammed with patients today. I've never seen so many waiting for lab work and doctor appointments. As a result, checking in was slow, getting my blood drawn was slow and seeing my doctor was a bit of a waiting game. Two hours later, after my appointments were done my doctor said he'd send the nurse in to deliver my flu shot. Two hours after he said that, I finally got the shot and made it out of there. Whew... long day.

Please send positive thoughts and prayers for the following people (some of their blogs are on my sidebar:)

Ann Gregory - released from MDA in Texas following her September transplant
Krissy Kobata - still in search of a donor
Michelle Maykin - Going up to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle this week
for double umbilical cord transplant
Erica Murray - Leukemia relapsed following transplant
Jaimee Yamaoka, 18, recently diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma

These friends stories highlight the importance of Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches (A3M). Please support A3M by attending Starnight (go to www.asianmarrow.org for info) or buying raffle tickets for Starnight or donating items for their silent auction. Additionally, OCO is hosting their golf tournament this year with net proceeds being donated to A3M. Go to http://www.ocoyouth.org/ for the golfer application or Tee Sponsorship information. A3M needs your help to continue on their mission to find donors for all those API's in-need. You can make a difference by helping out.

Thank you for supporting me. I appreciate all of you more than you know. love, nancy

Register to Save a Life!

Another great opportunity has arisen to get yourself and all your friends and relatives registered in the National Marrow Donor Program. Next Sunday, October 12th, Catalyst Christian Community Church will be having a bone marrow drive following the 10 am service:

Catalyst Christian Community Church
held at:
Stanford Middle School
5871 Los Arcos St.
Long Beach, CA 90815

A3M will again be registering potential donors. It's so easy to become somebody's life-saving hero!! You just need to be between the ages of 18 and 60 and in good general health. There is some paperwork and all it requires is a swab of your cheek!!! What could be easier and what could be more important?

My dear friend, Krissy Kobata, is in search of a bone marrow donor. She has Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), which is what I also had. She is only 26 years old and needs to have someone save her life. As you know, ethnicity is a key factor in finding a bone marrow "match." Krissy is of mixed heritage - Japanese and Caucasian - also known as Hapa, which has made it more difficult for her to find a donor match.

Please register on Sunday, October 12th and please have all your friends and family come along, too. You are more than welcome to attend Pastor Barry Deguchi's 10am service, but if you can't get there , we'll be there following the service from 11:15 to about 12:30.

Thank you so much for passing the word! You may be the one person who can save a precious life!!!

love you all,
Nancy
