All Good News!!! : )

I saw my doctor at the City of Hope yesterday. Although it was a long day, it was all good! My lungs have almost fully recovered from pneumonia. He put me on antibiotics for another 10 days, but says it's okay to continue with all of my summer plans! : )

I received the report from my bone marrow biopsy taken two months ago. Leukemia is in full remission. The report was clean!! Yay!!

My blood counts are stable:

WBC 3.8 (norm 4.0-11.0)
RBC 3.97 (norm 3.8-5.2)
HGB 12.8 (norm 11.5-15.5)
PLT 96 (150-350)

So, all this news is cause for celebration. I was lucky to find my donor. There are still so many people in search of a matched donor. My dear friend, Ann Gregory, underwent umbilical cord blood transplant over a year ago (for lack of finding an adult donor). Her leukemia has relapsed and she is in need of another transplant. She is of mixed race, which makes it even harder to find a donor. My other friend, Krissy Kobata, 25, is in search of a donor. She is hapa (half japanese and half caucasion) and is in search, as well. Please register to become a potential donor and save a life! There will be two bone marrow drives this month locally:

Saturday 7/19
Orange County Buddhist Church Obon
909 S. Dale Ave.
Anaheim 92804

Saturday 7/26 (3-8pm)
Sunday 7/27 (1-6pm)
SEJS Carnival
14615 Gridley Rd.
Norwalk 90605

It's so simple to register.... just some paperwork and a swab of your cheek. If you are in good health and 18 - 60 years old, there is no excuse for not registering. You really can be a hero and save someone's life!!! It doesn't get much better than that!!!

Thank you for your support. I'm lucky to be alive and thriving! Life is good! love, nancy

Recovering At Home

Well, it's only been two days since I was diagnosed with Pneumonia. My doctor at the City of Hope is allowing me to recover at home. He said we'll see how I respond to the antibiotics. If I get better, I can continue to be treated on an outpatient basis. If I don't, well, let's just not go there for now....

My dear friend, Ann Gregory, is in trouble. It appears her leukemia has relapsed, but is presenting in a different way. Please send good and positive thoughts her way as she begins a second battle for survival. Click on her name on the sidebar to read her blog.

Life is precious. Enjoy each day. love, nancy
