Doo Dah Parade - Mutts for Marrow

Yesterday, we all marched in the Doo Dah Parade in Pasadena. It was hot and exhausting, but it was a great way to "get the word out" about the need for minority and mixed race donors. Some very clever PR person came up with the theme "Mutts for Marrow." So we gathered up the mutts that we could, four-legged and human, and had a fun day.

In the first photo, Krissy Kobata, in the yellow tutu, was crowned Queen of the mutts! She is still awaiting a marrow donor to save her life!

I would like to personally thank my cousin, Carolyn (Lynny) Sagara, and her niece, Brooke Williams, for coming out to join the cause. Brooke did a fantastic job of spotting the Asian people in the crowd and delivering a dog-bone to them which was complete with the website where they get information on how to register to become a potential bone marrow donor. They were also able to bring Carolyn's beloved dog, Savanna!

We also had the distinct pleasure of having our nephew, Joey Sakakura, age 3, march with us in the parade. Thank you Cy and Yolanda for letting us march with your hapa child!!! He was perfect and a real joy, as always!

My family thought I had finally flipped my lid when they saw me attaching decorated dog bones to a tiara!

Thank you for continuing to follow my blog and to spread the word about the desperate need for potential donors! Love you all, nancy

Comments:
What a day! Great fun but exhausting.

I heard all the young people (the under 30 crowd) planning their costumes for next year.

I may wear a kimono on top and a Scottish kilt on the bottom to represent my two "halves."

The Kimono/Kilt is extremely clever. But, of course, you are a very hip and clever person! Thanks for everything. It was a good day and I hope, because of our efforts, more people become aware of the need for potential minority and mixed-race donors!!!
Keep in touch and let's try Shabu-Shabu next time! : ) love ya, n

It was a pleasure meeting you that one night when you bought the tiara. I got my packet and I'm filling it out right now. I'll mail it off by tomorrow afternoon. I really look forward to this and I hope that I'm a match for someone. It would be an honor and a privilege to possibly help save someone's life.
